US – The EquiTable app addresses income inequality by helping people to split their food and drinks bill more fairly.

  • The app uses race and gender data from diners to calculate what percentage of the bill each person should pay
  • It even comes with a protest feature for any white and Asian men who don’t think wage inequality is still an issue

EquiTable uses information from the US Department of Labor to adjust for income inequality, recommending the amount each person should pay depending on their race and gender. Using EquiTable’s Affirmative Fractions, an Asian male, for example, can expect to pay more than a black female, who in turn would pay more than a Hispanic female.

‘For centuries, women and people of colour have worked day in and day out only to be burdened by unequal pay for equal work,’ explains founder Luna Malbroux. After winning the grand prize at this year’s Comedy Hack Day, EquiTable has been launched as a free iOS app, ready to start conversations around dinner tables everywhere.
