London – AnOther magazine has launched the world’s first high-definition moving magazine cover.
- UK consumer magazines lost nearly 1m print sales in the first half of 2014
- Digital magazine circulation is increasing, totalling 369,000 in six months to June 2014
A collaboration with product designers PCH, Rihanna and Alexander McQueen, the biannual magazine is housed within a thin LED screen. Some 440 pages of fashion, interviews and literature sit snugly between the pixels of this tablet-meets-coffee-table book hybrid that is pushing the boundaries of publishing. Readers can switch between the cover’s ‘visual’ setting, featuring Rihanna, or plug in their headphones and switch to ‘audio’ to enjoy a bespoke soundtrack compiled by John Gosling. However, the magazine won’t come cheap. At £125 (€174, $189) it’s hardly light reading, but perhaps a small price to pay for a piece of publishing history.
