It takes a Frenchman to call flatpack furniture ‘poetic’. ‘Boring’, perhaps. ‘Maddening’, most definitely. Not, as French designer Vincent Tarisien puts it, ‘poetic and playful’. Yet Timber, Tarisien’s range of self-assembly furniture, truly deserves the epithet. His Master’s project for Swiss design school École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (ECAL) lends the poetry of design to the prose of mass-production.
