Neon-coloured and neo-modern in its approach, the Memphis Group was a collective of young product and furniture designers working during the 1980s. Rejecting conventional shapes, patterns, colours and textures used in design, it sought to liberate the form from its cultural and material constraints within the framework of a kitsch and humorous aesthetic.
